The Met Office has upgraded its weather warning for heavy rain across the East Midlands including Nottinghamshire as people are advised to take action to protect themselves and their property. A yellow weather warning for rain had been in place across the region for Monday , but this has now been upgraded to an amber warning.
The weather agency says: "An area of heavy rain is expected to develop across central and southern England during the early of hours of Monday, edging north and west and then becoming slow-moving somewhere across the warning area for several hours. It will then weaken and move away eastwards later Monday evening and overnight.
Lightning is also set to be an additional hazard in places and people are being urged to avoid travelling during potentially dangerous road conditions. The Met Office's forecast currently shows there will be a strong chance of heavy rain throughout Monday.
