Recent forecasts suggested the UK could see a pleasant warm spell in October as warm air moves over from the Caribbean
The Met Office has had its say on reports of an 'Indian summer' heading our way next month and shared its 'most likely scenario'.
Looking further ahead, the Met Office's long-range forecast isn't promising a reprieve but rather anticipates heavy rainfall and strong gusts will characterise the start of next month. "The chance of more settled weather increases during the second half the month with longer periods of dry weather developing at times with increasing amounts of fog and frost at night. However, confidence is low and there remains a chance that wetter, more unsettled conditions could continue."
They warn of travel disruption, flooding, power cuts and road closures. The highest rainfall totals are likely across the Pennines and North York Moors where 80-100mm could accumulate, the Met Office said.
