Hi-BYE has launched their e-commerce site, so you can now buy Sánchez’s baby clown printed T-shirts or Nakatani’s cheetah print fleece parka from anywhere in the world.
Nakatani and Cuauhtle first met on an airplane, of all places. “I never speak to anybody on an airplane but I met and somehow we became really good friends, and through her I met Roberto,” Nakatani says over the phone from Mexico City. Cuauhtle and Sánchez, longtime friends, always connected through their shared love of fashion.
From the start, shop-goers asked about e-commerce, as their audience skewed more towards those traveling from New York and Los Angeles than Mexico natives, though Nakatani says this is slowly but surely shifting—local shoppers, encouraged to play around and wear something a bit out there, have started to embrace the store’s experimental ethos, Nakatani says.
