Manchester City have until 11pm on Friday to add to their squad for the season
Micah Richards has urged Pep Guardiola not to sell Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips to Liverpool.
Speculation over England international Phillips, 27, and his future at the Etihad Stadium remains high as clubs prepare to strike-up late business during the summer transfer window. City and their fellow Premier League sides have until 11pm on Friday night to fine-tune their squads for the campaign. Phillips signed for City last summer for £45million from Leeds United and has struggled to make an impact. He has started only four games in all competitions and has yet to play a single minute this season.
City allowed Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus to leave and sign for Arsenal last summer before the Gunners pushed them all the way in the Premier League title race. However, while Liverpool are in the market for a midfield player, Richards does not want that to be Phillips.Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, ex-City defender Richards said: "Phillips is a difficult one. He has gone to City and got injured, but it was not a small injury and when he came back he got injured again.
"He's not going to get a game. Would I sell him to the rivals and Liverpool? No. I wouldn't do that. He's very capable of playing for Liverpool and doing very well. He's exactly what they need, as well."
