'The district is going to abide with the CDC recommendation for universal masking inside school buildings,' said DPSCD Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti.

Vitti stated that the mandate is required for all students and staff members, regardless of vaccination status.

A number of Michigan schools are split regarding the requirement of masks to be worn by students and staff as in-person learning returns amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Vitti wants to"assure that families, children and employees are safe during the upcoming school year.

"At this time, we have communicated that masks will be recommended but not required," said Richard M. Machesky, superintendent of Troy School District.
