Microsoft partners with uBreakiFix to offer repairs for Xbox Series X|S consoles, increasing accessibility for players. The company also plans to sell replacement parts through the Microsoft Store and iFixit's Microsoft Repair Hub. Microsoft emphasizes its commitment to sustainability by using zero single-use plastics in the latest Xbox Series X|S packaging and improving power consumption through software updates.

Microsoft is expanding its repair options and sustainability initiatives for the Xbox Series X|S consoles. Partnering with uBreakiFix, over 700 stores across the US will begin offering in-person repairs for these consoles starting January 20, 2024. This marks the first time Xbox authorized repairs will be available outside of Microsoft Stores, providing greater accessibility for players.

Additionally, the Microsoft Store will soon start stocking replacement components for the Xbox Series X|S, while the Microsoft Repair Hub on iFixit will also offer console parts. The initiative focuses on the three latest Xbox Series X|S models: the Xbox Series S - 1TB in Robot White, the Xbox Series X - 1TB Digital Edition, and the Xbox Series X - 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition. Microsoft emphasizes its commitment to sustainability by stating that these consoles already use zero single-use plastics in their packaging. The company aims to eliminate all single-use plastics from its packaging by 2025, opting for cardboard and fiber-based materials instead. Moreover, Microsoft highlights that Xbox Series X|S updates over the past three years have significantly improved the consoles' power consumption. Features like the energy-saving Shutdown setting and backend improvements to the Series S, which have reduced power consumption by around 10%, have contributed to substantial energy and emission savings. Microsoft claims to have 'prevented over 1.2 million metric tons of CO2e (Carbon Dioxide equivalent) compared to usage without interventions' between FY20 and FY23. This equates to more than 2 billion car miles driven by an average gasoline-powered vehicle, according to the US EPA's estimations. Through the Xbox Sustainability Toolkit, Microsoft encourages developers of popular Xbox games to implement innovative solutions that minimize their environmental impact while preserving the gaming experiences players enjoy.
