UPDATE: Deion Patterson, the 24-year-old man suspected in a mass shooting that killed one person and injured four others at an Atlanta hospital has been taken into custody, authorities report.
Grady Hospital’s chief medical officer, Dr. Robert Jansen, told reporters that one patient was still in the operating room and one was in the interventional radiology department. The doctor said both patients were still in serious condition.
Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said the vehicle has since been recovered, though he declined to share details about where it was found. Schierbaum said a 39-year-old woman was shot and killed on an upper level of the Northside Hospital building in Midtown Atlanta. Five other women, aged 71, 56, 39 and 25, were injured.“We just don’t know,” Schierbaum said. “It is still too soon to know why these individuals were chosen.”
