The lawmakers pointed to Democratic successes in Midwestern states, arguing the party “cannot afford” to overlook voters in states such as Michigan and Illinois.
Several high-profile Democrats signed on to the letter, such as Sens. Tammy Baldwin , Dick Durbin , Tammy Duckworth , Gary Peters , Debbie Stabenow , and Sherrod Brown . A group of Democratic governors — including Govs. Gretchen Whitmer , J.B. Pritzker , Tony Evers , and Tim Walz — also signed on to the letter.
