Migos rapper Takeoff was fatally shot at 810 Billiards & Bowling in Houston earlier this month.
The celebration of life is a limited-capacity event and open to Georgia residents with a strict no photo/video policy. Media will not be allowed entry to cover the event."Takeoff and Migos have already left their mark on the industry. Love them or hate them, their influence on the younger generation is undeniable," Calico said.
In the wake of the shooting, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner urged the public and social media to not"demonize" the hip-hop community because of unfounded rumors.Houston Police Chief Troy Finner spoke to Takeoff's quiet, nonviolent nature. "Everyone spoke of what a great young man he is, how peaceful he is," Finner said."We have no reason to believe that he was involved in anything criminal at the time."
"Sometimes the hip-hop community gets a bad name. There's a lot of great people in the hip-hop community, and I respect them," he said."We all need to stand together and make sure nobody tears down that industry. It’s not just hip-hop. It’s that age. And we need to give them some help. We need to cultivate them, be there and support them.", recently established to support programs and community-based solutions to prevent gun violence.
