A Downing Street spokeswoman said the Government was 'not complacent' and confirmed Sir Keir Starmer has cancelled a European holiday this week due to the disorder.
Ministers remain on 'high alert' for fresh rioting across Britain despite signs the recent violence in towns and cities has now abated, No10 said today.
Some 927 people have been arrested and 466 charged, so far, in connection with the chaos on Britain's streets in the wake of last month's Southport stabbing attack. 'We welcome that there has been a de-escalation this weekend, but we're certainly not complacent and remain on high alert,' a No10 spokeswoman said.
Asked how long the fast-tracked justice process was expected to last, the spokeswoman said: 'I don't think we put a timeline on that.' 'We've seen many people over the course of the weekend and over the disorder having their leave cancelled to ensure that we can respond to the disorder. She added: 'The PM is also working in response to escalations in the Middle East, and working in lockstep with our allies in urging for de-escalation, so those are his priorities.'
