This is one of the first instances where the Boruto manga has finally incorporated some of the anime-only moments.

Mitsuki Said That Boruto Is His Sun Ever since his introduction in the anime, Mitsuki has obviously held Boruto in high regard, going so far as referring to him as his coveted sun. This is Mitsuki's way of expressing his belief that Boruto will help him discover his own path in life, a deeply important goal for the young shinobi.
So while manga-only readers are aware of the fact that Mitsuki is now worshiping Kawaki, only those who have watched the anime know why. As Kawaki's use of Omnipotence has reversed his and Boruto's position and roles, Mitsuki has poured all the feelings he had for Boruto into Kawaki. However, Mitsuki's belief in Boruto was so strong and deeply rooted that it's not a stretch to think that he could start to doubt the new, altered reality that Kawaki created.
The Latest Example of A Horrible Trend in the Boruto Manga The manga's blatant disregard for certain events in the anime has unfortunately diluted Mitsuki's role in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. Unknown to manga-only readers, Mitsuki and Boruto share an incredibly deep bond that will hopefully play a role in the upcoming developments.
