LEXINGTON, Ky. — A fake punt touchdown flipped momentum and a maligned defense stepped up on the road as Missouri topped No. 24 Kentucky, 38-21, Saturday night.
Trailing early on the road, Missouri quarterback Brady Cook underthrew wide receiver Luther Burden III on a forced sideline route, resulting in his third interception of the year. With momentum swinging in Missouri’s favor on the next drive, wide receiver Theo Wease Jr. stepped up to bring the Tigers into the red zone for the first time. Burden held off a tackler to convert a key third-down jet sweep, but two stuffed runs and an overthrown crack at the back pylon brought kicker Harrison Mevis on to kick a 25-yard field goal and cut the Wildcats’ lead to 14-10.

Mizzou safety Joseph Charleston answered another week of calling for more defensive takeaways by poking out the ball on the first play of the second half.
