There are no Guardians players in this year's Derby, but the event is always sure to entertain ⚾
New York Mets star Pete Alonso, a two-time MLB Home Run Derby champion, will compete again in this year's derby on Monday at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. SEATTLE – We’re just days away from the 2023 Major League Baseball All-Star break, and the participants in Monday’s Home Run Derby were finalized by MLB on Wednesday.
There are eight sluggers in the Home Run Derby contest, which will take place at 8 p.m. Monday at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. While there are no Cleveland Guardians players competing in this year’s Home Run Derby, there will be plenty of star power on display. This year’s derby features two-time champion and New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, as well as last year’s runner up, Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez, and more. Luis Robert Jr.
Robert is the first White Sox player to participate in the Home Run Derby since Todd Frazier in 2016. His 25 home runs this season are tied with Alonso for third-most in MLB. Rutschman, meanwhile, is a switch-hitting, second-year catcher for the Orioles, who drafted him first overall in the 2019 MLB Draft. No switch-hitter has ever outright won the Home Run Derby, and no catcher has ever won the derby, creating an opportunity for Rutschman to make history on Monday in Seattle.
