Money launderer for Scotland's most notorious crime gang jailed after £14k found in Asda bag
A money launderer who helped provide cash to members of Scotland's most notorious crime gang has been jailed for four years and eight months.
McTaggart was frequently spotted with bags or parcels and was seen on nine occasions to exchange or drop off the items between May and October 2019. Operation Escalade has resulted in 42 people being convicted for serious offences including being involved in serious and organised crime, the supply and possession of drugs, firearms offences and money laundering.
The charge also revealed McTaggart had agreed with David Sell, Ellis Hardy and others to do things which 'furthered' the commission of organised crime and that he took possession of sums of cash which he knew came from 'illegality'. Hardy was jailed in February last year for being a member of a gang which smuggled £10 m of cocaine into Scotland in a lorry which was transporting Belgian waffles.
"His partner is due to give birth in December and that is the one thing at the forefront of his mind, she is also studying for a degree in criminal justice and the irony is not lost on him.
