Antioch’s Paradise Skate Roller Rink suffered extensive flooding this past winter.
With a new skating surface in place and other renovations complete, the Paradise Skate Roller Rink will open on Friday, more than four months after storms caused extensive damage.last New Year’s Eve when torrential rains hit the area and water rose some six inches inside the rink.
Staff later added some 200 sandbags around the building and was able to seal the doors to prevent more water from seeping into the rink. Over the past few months, manager Bob Bruce, staff, volunteers and others worked to remove the damaged carpet and wooden floor.Afterward, the cement had to be ground down to make it smooth, followed by the application of an epoxy coating designed for roller skating, Bruce said.
“The entire place has been wiped down and sanitized to remove all the dirt and grime that was collected during the closure,” he added. “There have been a lot of people that have helped out.” The rink will reopen at 5 p.m. Friday.
