Many children and adults report minor injuries after an airliner dumped jet fuel onto an elementary school playground east of Los Angeles.
A Delta flight injured more than 40 people after dumping fuel on a Los Angeles schoolyard and school buildings when it declared an emergency shortly after departing for China from the Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday.
At least 17 children and nine adults at Park Avenue Elementary were treated for minor injuries after being exposed to the jet fuel, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Another 16 people were treated from two schools, Jordan High School and 93rd Elementary, which were also exposed to jet fuel, the Los Angeles City Fire Department said.
No one was transported from the schools to hospitals and there were no evacuation orders in place. Officials say 44 people were treated at the three schools and all were released at the scene. UPDATE*** Patient count updated to 17 children, 9 adults. All minor injuries w/ no transports to local hospital from school. There are no evacuation orders for the immediate area. Substance was confirmed JET FUEL.
