A retro-looking simulation that steers a flying saucer-like craft through obstacles is helping usher in the era of the therapeutic video game

Among patients and doctors, “there’s a real open-mindedness to trying something new — probably due to the lack of efficacy and side effects with the [drug] treatments,” Adam Gazzaley, the University of California, San Francisco neuroscientist who patented the original idea for the game, told Future Pulse.
Krakauer’s video game was snapped up in August 2018 by Swiss firm Mindmaze and is undergoing clinical trials. One is under peer review, while others have been delayed by the pandemic.
