Official data 'downplays' full scale of crisis, say campaigners ahead of final report into disaster
Official data 'downplays' full scale of crisis, say campaigners ahead of final report into disasterwhich killed 72 people, the analysis suggests more than double the number of residents could be affected by dangerous cladding than previously thought.
Giles Grover, of campaign group End Our Cladding Scandal , said: “The truth is that the full size of this crisis remains unknown. The Government statistics continue to downplay the scale of the problem and there has likely been a massive undercount.” In addition, the true number of householders at risk is likely to be even higher because buildings under 11 metres tall with combustible cladding are not currently recorded by the Government as they are not considered significantly dangerous.he estimates that there could be as many as 50,000 blocks below 11 metres tall with serious fire safety defects such as unsafe cladding or missing fire breaks.
HPL cladding is as dangerous as that which caused the Grenfell disaster and has been known to be a fire risk since 2009.
