Brief Encounter, Poirot and Question Time have all used Morecambe as their set over the years
While Morecambe 's star as a seaside resort may have been on the decline in recent years, the town's potential to deliver some truly beautiful views has never been in doubt.
Two main characters Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard who play lovers in the flick, bid each other a heartfelt goodbye under the railway station clock. Director David Lean stood with cameras and film lights which illuminated the winter nights as he directed scenes for what is considered one of the best British films of all time.
The piece is seen as one of Bennett's most poignant contributions to theatre, along with director Stephen Frears who helps bring it to life. In 2009, a self-confessed lover of Poirot visited the hotel and posted a review on TripAdvisor. Part of the review reads: "The main reason for our stay here was to see the refurbishment. I first discovered the Midland Hotel on the internet whilst browsing to find a stopover for our drive up to Edinburgh last year and having also seen Poirot's Double Sin based there, I just had to visit.
It was filmed at the former port of Sunderland Point, a small village between the mouth of the River Lune and Morecambe Bay. It was once used as a port for slave and cotton ships but this importance was declined as other ports, such as Lancaster, opened up.Mini series, Turn Back Time was filmed on Morecambe's Albert Road. It followed three families who live for a week at a time in three adjoining houses on the street, living life in different time periods.
