Winnipeg's Lukas Hansen feels it's his time to shine for the Western Hockey League's Saskatoon Blades as he heads into the 2022-23 season.

Hansen — a third-year forward on the Saskatoon Blades who had seen only limited action in his first two seasons due to injury — has been a pleasant surprise during the Western Hockey League pre-season.We deliver the local news you need in these turbulent times on weekdays at 3 p.m.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc. Hansen entered Friday’s action with two goals — his first as a Blade — in three games. He had only two assists in 28 games played last season between injuries.“Yeah, I mean, I was here but I wasn’t,” offered Hansen, who was taken in the second round, 28th overall, of the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft. “I was working really hard this summer and I think I’ve got lots to show this year. It feels amazing. Like, last year I really didn’t get to show and play how I wanted to. I had concussions and a shoulder injury and, you know, with all that put behind me now and, looking ahead, I’ve felt really good and I’m really happy.”“Yes, I did,” he said. “I spent more time in the gym, less time on the ice. I feel like that made a really big impact for me.

“It’s a really deep forward group,” noted Hansen. “There’s good competition out there, which is really good for the team. Whoever’s playing the best is going to get the opportunity, so we’re pushing each other in practice to see. It’s been really good.”
