Belfast Live readers share their experiences as minister tackles delays in MOTs
The Infrastructure Minister is exploring ways to slash the MOT waiting times, including new temporary exemptions - and it can't come soon enough for Belfast Live readers in our comments section.
Some of our readers have been having a tough time of it, including commenter Citizens First: “Even 72 days is a laugh, my MOT isn’t up until 23rd May, but I can’t even get a date then, nearest one I saw was August!” Md123 feels the same: “72 days I wish. Currently there are no dates available at any centres. What are you supposed to do?”It's been a lottery for user Milkslug, too: “It’s a new game, book on to the MOT website and see where it wants to send you.
Readers have been putting forward their own solutions for the Minister to consider. A change in MOT periods seems popular, as Lynz68 says: “I agree with him about not privatising it. The simple solution surely is to test a car when it’s 4 then every 2yrs until it’s 10 then yearly. That would free up appointments.” SerialCrocheter says: “Thats a brilliant idea.”
