Maxine and Emma Jones are opening a children's clothing shop in the old Kids Connection unit, where Emma had also worked
But for a mother and daughter duo, there are just too many coincidences to be ignored. Maxine and Emma Jones have opened up their very own children's clothing shop in their hometown of Accrington on Friday, called Sweet Child of Mine Kids Wear.
"There's no children's clothing competition really, there's no Primark. You can argue that you can go to Blackburn on the bus, but there's a lot that obviously want to stay local and not go on a bus and just want to walk down into the town. For the last five years, she was on her own in the business and for the last one year, her daughter Emma joined and the pair found that they worked well together. Maxine also remembers working closely with her own mum, "many years ago" showing that their work really does run through the family.
The pair admit that footfall for shoppers in Accrington has fallen over recent years, just like many other towns and cities across the country. Despite the gamble, the pair have thrown in most of their savings to make the shop work but they will be keeping other jobs on the side, with Emma still working at Tesco whilst they run their new business.
