Roxie Washington, the mother of George Floyd's youngest daughter made her first public comments since his death last week in Minneapolis.
MINNEAPOLIS – The tears were forming in Roxie Washington’s eyes Tuesday before she even stepped to a podium at Minneapolis City Hall, with 6-year-old daughter Gianna clinging protectively at her side.
On May 25, Floyd died while handcuffed and pinned to the street by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who kept his knee on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes in a video that quickly went viral. Chauvin, and three other officers who were on the scene to arrest Floyd over the possible use of a counterfeit $20 bill, were all fired. Only Chauvin has been charged so far in the case, which the Hennepin County medical examiner has ruled a homicide.
“He’ll never see her grow up, graduate. He will never walk her down the aisle. Floyd, 6-foot-4, played at South Florida State College. Jackson, four years younger, made it all the way to the NBA, playing 14 seasons for seven teams.
