However, Flexed experts have issued a stark warning about a lesser-known regulation that could cost drivers a hefty fine if overlooked. "Motorists who park the wrong way on a road could be risking a fine of up to £1,000 without really knowing that they’ve broken the rule," a spokesperson at the firm warned.
The specific text of the rule states: "You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space."Echoing these safety concerns, the vehicle disposal comparison website Scrapcarcomparison.co.uk cautions that incorrectly parked vehicles are shrouded in darkness night, making them difficult for other road users to see, harking back to an article published previously by the Nottingham Post.
"Motors parked the correct way would be visible and illuminated by headlights bouncing off the rear reflectors," a spokesperson explained. "Rule 248 of the Highway Code states 'you must not park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space,' and not many motorists are aware of this.
