Incidents of drug-driving and drink-drinking were also recorded during the clampdown
Lancashire Police have carried out a week-long crackdown of dangerous drivers in a bid to safeguard vulnerable road users. They have recorded a series of serious incident, with more than 200 people dealt with as result of the clampdown.
A drug-driver pulled over by officers denied ever using cannabis, despite the smell and a drug wipe telling police otherwise. Elsewhere, two children were found to not be wearing seatbelts. They said in a defiant statement: "We all know an elderly pedestrian, a child who walks or cycles to school, a motorcyclist, a horse-rider or someone who uses a mobility device – and we would be devastated if anything happened to them."
"And also drugs stay in your system for a lot longer than you think. Cyclists, motorcyclists and horse-riders have just as much right as you to use the roads. Don’t like it? Don’t use the roads. Nobody thinks you’re cool because you drive badly. When was the last time you narrowly avoided killing someone’s Granny and were immediately asked on a date?
The week of action was part of the NPCC but was supported by Lancashire Police. You can find the full results of the clampdown, hereCh Insp Matt Willmot, of the Lancashire Roads Policing Unit, said: "We know people who drive dangerously are the minority, however they are a minority who cause heartbreak and chaos in our county and we will not stand for it.
