To some of us, stopping at motorway services is a quick five-minute thing with a trip to the loo and maybe grabbing a coffee.
But for others, especially those on long journeys, with children or driving an electric vehicle they need to stop for much longer. Therefore, the latter may need to do their research before they set off, as the 10 worst service stations in the UK have been revealed, and one is on the M6 in Cumbria. Killington Lake in Kendal has been ranked the fourth-worst.
A study analysed a number of criteria such as EV 'friendliness' , number of food outlets, shops, children's play areas and customer ratings. Roadchef-operated Killington's EV score was a lowly 0.92/10 due to it having only two charging spaces and no 'ultra-rapid' or Tesla points.It was also one of the more expensive spots to charge an EV on the motorway.
It does, however, have a hotel on site, an attractive lake making it an ideal stopping place for travellers with dogs and six food outlets to choose from. Tebay Services on the M6 in Penrith was ranked the best for shops, with six. Bothwell on the M74 was ranked the worst services in the study, which was compiled by DriveElectric. It was closely followed by Pont Abraham on the M4 and Hamilton , also on the M74.
