Photos show the four-year-old dog being stretchered from the summit of Gillercomb in the Lake District
Mountain rescue volunteers mounted an unusual five-hour mission - to save a tired dog which had been taken for a walk in hot weather.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team said eight members of its team were needed to rescue the dog as temperatures hit around 20C. They said its red-faced owners did not want to be identified but were happy for the ordeal to be shared to raise awareness of the issue.Rescuers are now asking dog owners to consider their pets' capabilities after the German Shepherd suffered injuries to all of its pads.
"The party had done a long walk over high rocky ground and were descending into Gillercomb when the dog refused to go any further. This dog gets regular exercise but walking on grassy fields is no preparation for rough and rocky fells.
