Rochdale MP Paul Waugh said that both sides to the incident are 'shocking'
Rochdale MP Paul Waugh has released a new statement in light of the Manchester Airport arrest video - stating that both sides to the incident are 'shocking'.
The clip showed violent scenes erupting between a male police officer, two female officers and two men. In the clip, one officer appeared to grab one man's hands in an attempt to restrain him before punches were thrown by the officer and the men. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Play now In full, his statement said: "When I met the Assistant Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police last Thursday, I made it very clear that any perpetrator of criminal attacks on our police should face the full force of the law.
"It was crucially important that the original, viral footage did not lead to wider violence, and I’m pleased that after I met the brother and parents of those involved in this incident, their pleas for calm and for people not to attend further protests were heeded in Rochdale. A community meeting on Friday in Rochdale with Andy Burnham, his deputy Kate Green and local police underlined that message and many locally were key to keeping the peace.
It was also revealed yesterday that the solicitor representing the family involved announced he is 'stepping aside' from the case. Akhmed Yakoob, dubbed the 'TikTok lawyer', said he had 'recommended a lawyer' for the family involved.
