A new TV spot for Marvel Studios’ latest Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel, reveals a surprising connection to Spider-Man: No Way Home. Following Moon Knight and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU’s next big project sees Iman Vellani make her acting debut as Kamala Khan. Ahead of her big-screen debut in 2023’s The Marvels, Ms. Marvel introduces audiences to its titular character, a Pakistani-American teenager from Jersey City.
Ms. Marvel begins with its hero as a humble writer of fan fiction, gamer, and superhero obsessive, with a particular appreciation for Captain Marvel. Irrespective of her interests, Kamala has trouble fitting in both at home and school. That is, until she acquires a pair of cosmically powered bracelets, which give her superpowers of her own. Trailers and clips from Bisha K. Ali’s series have teased Ms. Marvel as an endearing coming-of-age tale akin to Jon Watt’s Homecoming trilogy.
Some have taken issue with Ms. Marvel changing its main character’s powers. However, the above trailer and clips that have preceded it seem to bode well for the likability of its lead hero and overall tone. Its inclusion of the DODC is just another example of the MCU’s interconnectivity and, perhaps, implies Ms. Marvel's status as essential canon viewing.
