I have walked some of these routes with parents and pupils over unmanned junctions, fast roundabouts, and a carriageway at Airbles Road.

The council’s decision now sees secondary pupils living more than three miles from their catchment school qualifying for transport provision, compared to the previous two-mile limit – with the relevant distance for primary pupils set to double to two miles in 12 months’ time. High school pupils returned to school recently but parents say many of those affected by the change were let down by public transport, with buses not turning up or drivers limiting the number of children being allowed on.
