It's just over ten years since the eyes of the world were on Belfast when the city played host to the MTV Europe Music Awards.
The big winners on the night included Lady Gaga, who scooped the award for 'Best Song' with Born This Way, while it came as no surprise that Justin Bieber took home the award for 'Best Pop', beating off stiff competition from Katy Perry and Rihanna.Not only did it bring some of the biggest names in music to our doorstep and boost the local economy by an estimated £10m, the ceremony itself was broadcast live into millions of homes in up to 160 countries across the globe.
MTV scouts had looked at the city twice before — shortly after the opening of the Odyssey Arena and again, a few years later — but the infrastructure still needed a few tweaks so it was a case of third time lucky for Belfast. Barcelona, Rome and Berlin had also been previous hosts before Belfast was added to that illustrious roll-call.
