Heartbreaking
As Michael Anton O'Connor lay dying in a Nottingham street, his family are tormented by his death in horrendous circumstances. He was not surrounded by those he loved, and there was no chance for goodbyes, one last hug or one last, 'I love you', they say.
Every day during the trial of The Meadows murder - with nine ultimately convicted of Anton's murder - relatives sat quietly in dignified silence - his mother and father, Yvonne and Michael O'Connor, pained by the court process and mourning a treasured son.Statements read in court articulated the depth of anguish for the family. They endured seven months of the trial of 11, and two were found not guilty of murder.
And they said it was extremely difficult to articulate how the trial made their family feel. "We have seen family members who usually stand tall, unable to stand. Those who usually have all of the words, now have none. How can you feel numb and consistent pain all at the same time?" Part of the case homed in on a Punto car, which Anton collapsed down the side of, parked in Wilford Crescent West, The Meadows, after he was the unintended victim of an armed and masked ambush on November 10, 2021.
