Dean Hughes has been handed a life sentence
A killer attacked a man with ‘brutal ferocity’ then ‘dumped’ his victim in an alleyway and tried to blame it on his own girlfriend. for the murder of Shane Maloney.
Manchester Crown Court heard that the pair had never met prior to the attack in November 2019. Hughes and his girlfriend were living at the house on Wigan Road. Mr Maloney’s girlfriend was also living at the property at the time. A ‘fight’ then broke out between them. A judge said he was ‘prepared to accept’ that Mr Maloney had ‘struck’ Hughes ‘possibly with a beer bottle’, and punched him causing injury.
“At the end of it you realised Mr Maloney was barely conscious,” the judge continued. Hughes then ‘dragged him outside’ and ‘dumped him in an alleyway at the back of the house’.
