Black Sabbath tribute act, Sabbra Cadabra were set to perform at Ivory Blacks, on Oswald Street, on Saturday. They are fuming after having to cancel due to Low Emission Zone fines.
A band is raging after being forced to cancel their gig in Glasgow this weekend due to "ridiculous" Low Emission Zone fines.
Alongside the costs of fuel, venue hire, hotel and other expenses, they would have "lost a lot of money" if their performance went ahead. When they booked the venue, they did not know about the LEZ - which was launched in June - the band claims. "This looks to be the end of playing in Glasgow and anywhere else that introduces these ridiculous fines."
They added: "The irony is that the venue is just a few hundred yards inside the zone, we would have driven into the zone for perhaps just a minute, parked up, unloaded the gear, played until around 11.30pm, reloaded the van, driven out of the zone for perhaps one minute and gone home to Manchester - best part of a four hour drive.
"Sadly, we will never return to Glasgow and now we have shared this, I doubt many other people will too. A real shame as we had a great reception from the fantastic Glaswegians last time we played there. The city will suffer." “Plans to extend a LEZ to all vehicle types was announced in 2018 and since then the council has undertaken an extensive programme of communications and engagement to raise awareness of the scheme, its timescale for introduction and the availability of funding to ease compliance.
