It's not your typical beer garden but it's been my favourite ever since I found it
As soon as the good weather hits locals clamber to their nearest beer garden. The obvious choices include sprawling expanses near busy parks with a capacity of several hundred or pubs with outdoor televisions playing live sports. Mine, however, sits at the corner of a construction-filled city centre street, tucked away behind the venue's bar and barely catches any sunlight at all.
Behind the right-hand side of the bar are steps leading to the beer garden. You wouldn't know it's there if the door wasn't open or people weren't already seated. Matching The Merchant's interiors, the garden also opts for an industrial feel with exposed brick walls, metal beams, iron tables with barstools and a few overhead shutters to keep out the rain. Sure, there are more spacious, exotic and chic beer gardens around the city but they lack the personality of The Merchant.
