Patel threw up his arms in disgust, then said: “F--- the mayor” within earshot of students, according to the video. His remark was corroborated by two Edison officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. Joshi was among a select group of Edison officials who spoke at the potluck event celebrating the Lunar New Year. He had been invited by a high school student, documents show. About a dozen school faculty members also attended.
A spokesperson for the Edison police department did not respond to an email asking if the incident is under investigation. It’s not clear why police would be at an afterschool holiday celebration, although the event occurred six days after a mass shooting at a Lunar New Year event in Monterey Park, California, that resulted in 11 deaths.
Peng repeats her question, and the officer responded: “If you have an issue, you can talk to the mayor.”The outburst elicited a warning from the cop: “You curse again in front of these kids, you’re going to get arrested,” he said.
