Lawrence County GOP Chairman Shanon Terry apologizes for an image State Rep. Anthony Daniels, D-Huntsville, said was 'disgusting.'
The Lawrence County NAACP has scheduled a news conference for noon Friday to call on the chairman of the local Republican Party to step down over a photo that contained Ku Klux Klan imagery.
Lawrence County GOP Chairman Shanon Terry apologized for the image, which featured hooded figures resembling Klansmen in the white space of the legs of a GOP elephant, saying it didn’t “represent the views or beliefs” of the group. He said the image “temporarily appeared” on the organization’s Facebook page Sunday night, suggesting that the KKK imagery was not immediately noticed by whoever posted it.Hooded figures resembling Klansmen can be seen in the space between the legs of a GOP elephant.
