A pet pig on the lam in Naperville was safely reunited with his owner thanks to the actions of a nearby neighbor.

Hamilton, a 95-pound Juliana pig discovered wandering around the area of Bailey and Plainfield-Naperville roads in Naperville, was kept safe by a man and his dog Sunday until he could be reunited with his owner, who was in town visiting family when the porker went exploring.

Because it was friendly like Babe from the movie of the same name, he assumed somebody’s pet had gotten loose and called Naperville Animal Control, he said. As he waited for an owner to reply, he and Clover followed the little guy, trying to keep it to one side of the street and to prevent it from wandering into traffic, he said.

After about 45 minutes, Zelizer heard a woman calling for Hamilton and shaking a container of treats, he said.Cindy Cavanagh, of Michigan, was visiting family in Naperville for Christmas when her pig, Hamilton, decided to go for a walk Sunday around the Brighton Ridge neighborhood. The pair were reunited thanks to a neighbor who kept watch over the pig as it roamed the subdivision.
