Previous NASCAR Cup Series champion Kurt Busch announced Saturday that he will be stepping away from full-time racing in 2023.

Busch raced 22 races in the 2022 season but missed the last 12 Cup Series races following a concussion he sustained during a July 23 crash on Pocono Raceway. He claimed that"lately I haven't felt my best" since that wreck.

"The doctors have come to the conclusion that it is best for me to 'shut it down' for this season," Bush wrote in a tweet Saturday."Even though I have made solid gains since I have been working with top specialists, and the team at the Toyota Performance Center, I'm still not 100%, and I'm still not cleared to compete." pic.twitter.com/2SMr0CBF2iFellow racer Tyler Reddick will join Busch's 23XI team and drive his No. 45 car in the races to come.

The brand ambassadorship Busch has had with energy drink company Monster will continue, according to the driver. Busch's partnership with Monster has lasted over 10 years. "I'm not done racing," Busch assured his fans in a subsequent video posted to Twitter."Just stay along for the journey, it's still going to be a good ride."CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER

Busch won 34 times in NASCAR’s premier division during his career, including wins in the Daytona 500 and Coca-Cola 600.
