European Club Association chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi insists the Saudi Pro League is of no threat to European football at the moment despite a heavy summer of spending

Executives of the European Club Association insist there is no need for Europe to worry about the riches of the Saudi Pro League - just days after Al-Ittihad failed with a £150m bid to sign Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.

But despite reports of Al-Ittihad - who are one of four Pro League sides partially owned by Saudi's Public Investment Fund - willing to make the 31-year-old the highest-paid player in the world while simultaneously offering Liverpool a world-record transfer fee of £200m, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who is the chairman of the ECA and president of Paris Saint-Germain, believes there is no need for Europe to be alarmed by the growing influence of the Gulf state.

"Is it dangerous? I told you my opinion. If there is a danger, the European clubs will not be quiet. So far, I don't see any danger." Liverpool are one of a number of Premier League outfits who have done business with clubs in the Saudi Pro League this summer, with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho securing switches to Al Ettifaq and Al-Ittihad respectively.

In that time, Demarai Gray sealed a deadline-day move from Everton to Al Ettifaq, while Steven Gerrard's side reportedly also made a last-ditch attempt to sign Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United after his recent social media outburst toward manager Erik ten Hag.
