More than 42,000 people are expected at the event on Sunday (August 6) alone with Northamptonshire Police also issuing advice
Drivers, riders and residents are advised to allow extra time for journeys if travelling to or near Silverstone this weekend as the circuit hosts the popular British MotoGP. With more than 42,000 people expected at the event on Sunday alone, National Highways will have extra traffic officer patrols in the area to make sure visitors’ journeys are as safe and smooth as possible.
National Highways Network Resilience Planner, Phil Shaw, said: "The British MotoGP is always a popular event so we would advise anybody heading to Silverstone this weekend, or travelling around the area, to make sure they leave plenty of time for the trip as we expect the roads to be busy. National Highways Assistant Regional Safety Co-ordinator, Marie Biddulph, said: "Motorcyclists are one of our most vulnerable groups of road users with many incidents involving motorbikes happening over the summer. Now is a good time to speak to bikers, particularly novice or young riders, to offer some safety advice including around wearing protective clothing every time they go out for a ride.
