Weather: The National Weather Service confirms a microburst with wind speeds of 60-70 mph hit Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, on Tuesday afternoon.
Numerous parked cars were struck by trees, but no one was injured. The FDNY says one person sustained a minor injury when they came out of their house and a branch fell on their shoulder.
"I was watching out the window when this huge burst of wind like I never saw came down the street, and the water was whooshing down. And I looked up and this tree was bending in half. The awning was hanging just by the very edge. It was very frightening," Bensonhurst resident Joan McGrath said. The city says multiple trees were knocked down on Bay Ridge Avenue. Cleanup crews are expected to be on the scene within the next day.
