As the NBA gets set to announce its plan to restart the 2019-2020 season at Walt Disney World in Orlando, details are beginning to reportedly emerge about how many and which teams will be invited and how the 16-team playoff field will be determined
To reset, the Washington Wizards are 5.5 games behind the Orlando Magic for 8th and six games behind the Brooklyn Nets for 7th in the East and would have to gain a lot of ground to get into a play-in tournament scenario.
The West is more interesting. The Memphis Grizzlies hold the 8th seed out West by 3.5 games over the New Orleans Pelicans, Portland Trailblazers and Sacramento Kings, with Portland holding the tiebreaker based on winning percentage and NOLA holding the head-to-head edge on the Kings. The San Antonio Spurs are four games back and the Phoenix Suns trail the Grizzlies by six.
The NBA regular season has been suspended since March 11 when Utah Jazz All-Star center Rudy Gobert tested positive for coronavirus.to ratify the league’s reopening plan, but already tweeted that the league is coming back. The NBA’s players association must also agree to any return to play format as well.
