DUBLIN — Five weeks ago, James Logan’s Jacob Watts had never competed in the triple jump.
“That’s nice. I’m thankful. I’m kind of new to this,” said Watts, who competed in discus, shot put and high jump prior to this season.“This is my fourth week doing it,” Watts said. “I thought it looked cool, so I tried it.” “It was phenomenal,” said Dublin coach Chris Williams about Muhammad’s performance. “Her PR coming in was 13-7. Most of the time in the pole vault, if you PR at the elite level, you’re doing like an inch or two inches at a time. To go five inches above that at the Meet of Champions just shows you how remarkable of a kid she really is.”
Twenty of Dublin’s points came from senior Anish Kasam. He first won the 110-meter high hurdles with a wind-aided time of 14.39 out of Lane 6. Then in the 300 hurdles, he led from the first hurdle in Lane 7 and finished first in 39.25. Mari Testa won the difficult 100 hurdle-100 meters double to lead the Cougars. First, she bolted to a victory in the hurdles with a time of 14.68 . Two events later, the junior won the 100 out of Lane 6 with a time of 12.19.
