President Joe Biden and Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) might have been happy about their debt ceiling deal, but the initial perception among most voters wasn’t exactly a positive endorsement.
According to a new poll by Rasmussen Reports, approximately half of all voters feel that raising the debt limit will only worsen inflation. Whether it will or not remains to be seen. However, such a pessimistic view of the agreement is not ideal for Biden or McCarthy.Rasmussen’s survey revealed that 47% of voters “believe raising the debt limit will make inflation worse.” Conversely, 25% believed the deal would not impact inflation, and 19% felt the agreement would “make inflation better.
Additionally, the Rasmussen poll asked, “How concerned are you about inflation?” and 87% of respondents who identified as likely United States voters admitted they were “concerned with inflation,” including 63% who said they were “very concerned.”The poll’s results stem from the reality that, despite optimistic messaging from the Biden administration and Democrats, people are still reeling from high consumer prices and that inflation is still a major concern for much of the country.
One thing appears clear: our nation’s politicians are not on the same page as the country’s taxpayers on economic issues. And, whether one is a Build Back Better Biden Democrat or an ardent supporter of the GOP, all can agree that the country is still anxious over inflation and much more work needs to be done.
