The Cornhuskers guard made six three-pointers on her way to 30 points as Maryland fell in the semifinals.
Nebraska's Jaz Shelley shoots over Maryland's Shyanne Sellers during the second half of a Big Ten tournament semifinal Saturday in Minneapolis. MINNEAPOLIS — Maryland had a front-row seat for “Jaz-fest” on Saturday afternoon at Target Center, and the Terrapins were treated to an incredible show. That was absolutely not what they were hoping for.
The Shelley show started late in the first quarter, when she went on a one-woman 11-0 run to give Nebraska a 25-12 lead. She drove to the basket for a layup before hitting three consecutive threes, including one off a crossover, step-back dribble that caused Shyanne Sellers to stumble to the court. Maryland was efficient, shooting 45.6 percent, and Sellers led the way with 15 points to go with seven assists and six rebounds. The Terps had five players score in double figures, but they traded twos for threes too often: Nebraska was 13 for 28 from behind the arc, and Maryland was 4 for 13.Faith Masonius continued her strong postseason with 14 points and nine rebounds. Jakia Brown-Turner, who had scored in double figures in 16 consecutive games, managed just eight points on 3-for-15 shooting.
