The right-wing groups were opposed by a coalition of heavily armed leftists from the Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club and the Party for Socialism and Liberation, who were openly carrying rifles and said they intended to protect the show and its attendees.
Justin Williams, a Fort Worth man who has been going to drag shows since he was 16, said the performances “bring people together.”Looking toward the group of armed leftists who showed up to support the show and defend its patrons, Williams said he felt somewhat conflicted. “I’m grateful on some level there are people willing to do that — but it seems confrontational. It doesn’t make me more comfortable,” he said.
