Eleonora “Tinny” Andreatta, who as head of drama at Italian public broadcaster RAI was instrumental in making groundbreaking Italian shows such as “My Brilliant Friend,” is joiningThe monumental move for Andreatta, who at RAI was Italy’s most powerful commissioning editor for drama, comes as Netflix is upping investments and its presence in Italy, where the streaming giant will soon open a Rome base.
Based in Rome, Andreatta will oversee the team that develops and creates Italian original series for the global entertainment service, and will report into Kelly Luegenbiehl, VP for EMEA Original Series at Netflix, the streaming giant said in a statement.“I’m delighted to welcome Tinny to the team as we further our long-term commitment to Italy and grow our slate of shows that are made in Italy and watched by the world,” Luegenbiehl said in the statement.
“Throughout her career, Tinny has championed world-class Italian storytelling, working with the best creative talent in Italy and helping to create some of the most ambitious projects on Italian television. I know she will build further on the wonderful work Felipe Tewes has done to help establish our presence in Italy and to nurture our many creative partnerships,” she added.
In separate but related news, Felipe Tewes, who has served as director of Italian Original series for three years, is taking up a new director role within Netflix that will be announced at a later stage. Since beginning to invest in Italian original productions in 2017 with “Suburra,” Netflix has upped its range of projects and partners across Italy. In 2020 alone, five new seasons of Italian original shows will be launched, with the number expected to double by 2022.
