Netflix’s live-action One Piece trailer takes sides in One Piece’s Zoro and Sanji debate, favoring one of them over the other. One of the reasons why One Piece is so popular is its characters, all of which are special in their own way. Whereas the One Piece anime has passed the 1,000 episodes milestone, the live-action One Piece show will revisit the classic One Piece character dynamic from the very first arcs.
As such, some old One Piece fan debates and discussions will be reignited. One of those is the Zoro vs. Sanji debate, as in which of those two characters is more essential to the story. Subtly, the live-action One Piece trailer hints at the live-action show taking sides in that discussion. In terms of marketing, the One Piece trailer is heavily focused on Zoro. Zoro has a couple of cool lines in the One Piece trailer, not to mention how two Zoro fighting scenes were shown.
Sanji, on the other hand, barely appeared in the One Piece trailer. The soon-to-be Straws Heat cook did not have any lines in the One Piece trailer, and he only interacted with Luffy during a blink-or-miss underwater scene. While not much can be inferred from the first trailer, it is clear that One Piece’s marketing is so far given more attention to Zoro than to Sanji. While One Piece has a set of main characters led by Luffy, audiences obviously have their favors.
Sanji & Zoro Should Be Equals In The One Piece TV Show Netflix’s live-action One Piece show should not take sides in the Sanji vs. Zoro fan debate. In other words, Sanji and Zoro should be equals in the One Piece show in terms of screen time and how important they feel to the story. Of course, Zoro is introduced much earlier than Sanji in One Piece. Using the One Piece anime as a parameter, Zoro appears in One Piece episode 1, whereas Sanji debuts in One Piece episode 20.
