Health officials are investigating an increase of a rare brain infection occurring in kids in Nevada, according to the CDC.
Aspergilloma of the brain is seen in an undated stock photo.The Southern Nevada Health District reported in October a "higher than expected" number of pediatric patients in Clark County who have intracranial abscesses.
According to the report, there were an average of seven cases during 2020 and 2021, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.The abscess can cause swelling in the brain, which places harmful pressure on brain tissue and can prevent blood from flowing to parts of the brain, according to Johns Hopkins.
